Honolulu Zoo’s “Wildest Show in Town” Summer Concert Series
This summer the Honolulu Zoo Society and McDonalds Restaurants of Hawaii presents a Summer Concert Series with some of Hawaii’s hottest artists. This family friendly event is quite a bargain, only $3 donation per person, with proceeds to benefit the society’s conservation and educational programs.
The concerts run each Wednesday evening from June 8th through August 10th. The entertainment lineup is as follows:
JUNE 8 – John Cruz
JUNE 15 – Barrett & Tara Awai
JUNE 22 – Roy Sakuma & His Super Ukulele & Friends
JUNE 29 – Kelly Boy Delima
JULY 6 – Manoa DNA
JULY 13 – Ukulele Extravaganza featuring Ohta San
JULY 20 – Melveen Leed
JULY 27 – Jimmy Borges & Friends
AUGUST 3 – Frank Delima
AUGUST 10 – Ho’okena
Gates open at 4:35pm, so that you can get there early and find a spot on the beautiful lawn or under the banyan tree. The concerts run from 6pm to 7pm, and on the way out you may even get to see the elephants! As a bonus, there will be a drawing each week for a free ukulele as well as coloring contests and games for keiki. This is a very family-friendly event.
Food is available for purchase, or you may bring your own, however alcoholic beverages are not permitted. Pack along a blanket, mat, or something to sit on, but no high back chairs, in order to provide everyone a great view. Public parking is available at the Zoo parking lot or around Kapiolani Park.
Apologies from the poor sound quality from my cell phone, but here’s “Guava Jelly” (including a great ukulele solo) by Kelly Boy Delima from the June 29th performance:
