On the night of Jan. 29, the astronomers at the Pan-STARRS PS1 telescope atop Haleakala decided to "run it flat out" in killer-asteroid hunting mode, and despite uncooperative weather, they bagged a record 19 "near-Earth objects" in one night.

I missed this one again, shucks! I was getting updates all night (with photo text messages!) from people who stood in the crazy lines – it sounds like Melt's Surf & Turf (Steak and cheese sandwich w/ lobster bisque) and Gogi Korean Tacos were the standouts, judging by the lines!

Kaka‘ako to host this week’s Eat the Street | Nonstop Honolulu | Entertainment, Events and Eating | Honolulu, Hawaii
To say that last month’s Eat the Street was successful would be an understatement. Over 1,200 street food fans fought through the masses in search of their favorite street grinds. This Friday, Eat the Street’s second event moves to a larger venue in the Kaka‘ako neighborhood through a partnership with landowner Kamehameha Schools.

“The old entrance, which opened in 1964, served the zoo well for many years, but our guests will be treated to a better introductory experience when they walk through the new Honolulu Zoo entry,” Zoo Director Manuel Mollinedo said. The design includes a low-wall ground sign identifying Kapiolani Park and the zoo. It will replace the existing information kiosk at the corner of Kapahulu and Kalakaua avenues.
