Spring Break in Hawaii

Hawaii Travel Guide

It's about that time of year again! Yes, Spring Break is almost upon us. So, you've studied hard and are looking to escape the cold of winter? Well, if you're looking for some fun in the sun, Hawaii just might be the destination for you.

There is never a shortage of things to do in Hawaii. For the most bang for your buck, easiest access to public transportation, and the widest variety of nightlife options, many will opt to stay in Waikiki during a spring break vacation. Check out our articles on hostels in Waikiki for budget options in this area.

Keep in mind that this time of year can be a busy time in the islands, especially Oahu and Waikiki. Japanese visitors also have a major holiday period usually in late April to early May called "Golden Week" where families will often take a week or so off to visit warmer climates, such as Hawaii! Spring Break traffic typically comes in before Golden Week, but there can sometimes be a little bit of overlap. It just adds to the fun!

While Waikiki can be fun, it's definitely not your only option for a Spring Break destination in Hawaii. You could stay on the North Shore, where you'll likely have the chance to see some of the world's best surfers catching the big winter swells. Island hopping is another option - you're in time for whale watching or ziplining on Maui, visiting the lava flow on the Big Island, or hiking on Kauai.
